1. What role did the Revolutionary War play in the transformation of housewifery to Republican Motherhood?
They acted as inspiration and ethusiasm for ideals like independence, republicanism, and patriotism that were brought out by the Revolutionary War. After the Revolution it was common belief that this ideals needed to be carried through generations and it was the mothers duty to put these ideals into their son's minds(Document A).

Women had to educate the sons and raise them to be republicans. In document D, it states that the destiny of our country is dependent on the mothers.
3. What is the significance of the ideology of Republican Motherhood as a stage in the process of women's socialization?
Through Republican motherhood women were given much more respect. The home, which was considered to be their place of duty, was considered the "cradle of the human race" where the nature of people is decided.(Doc A). It also encouraged women to be educated in the ways of liberty and republicanism in order to teach their sons these values (Doc B).

1. Describe the setting.
The setting is a women with her two children. They are sitting on what looks to be a pink couch and one child is on her lap and the other next to her. They all seem to be wearing dresses.
2. Who serves at the center of the portrait and why? How does the woman look? How is she “republican” rather than aristocratic?
The center of the portrait is the mother, I think this because my eyes go straight to her in the photo. She looks happy and proud. She represents a republican because it is apparent that she cares for her children.
3 What values do her sons exhibit?
One of the children is holding a bird, which represents freedom and compassion. The other is reaching for his mother which shows dependency.
4. Is there a significance to the position of Mrs. Tilgham’s arm?
Mrs. Tilgham's arm is draped over her younger child in front of her. I think that it signifies that she educating the youngest right then because she has already done so for the older one.

This propaganda relates to Republican Motherhood because it promotes nationality and pride just like the republican mothers were educated to do.
