Ava's AP American Blog Lad #3: Declaration of Independence

1. Summarize the Declaration of Independence in 3 parts (1. democratic principles, 2. list a handful of grievances, 3. the conclusion).

The signing of The Declaration of Independence 1776.

1. Democratic Principles:
The Declaration of Independence completely remodeled the view points of the country. After living under the rule of King George III, the colonists formed a democratic government that would be run by and for the people of America. The declaration gave every man's right to 'life liberty, and the pursuit of happiness' and stated 'all men are created equal'. Another democratic principle established in the declaration is that the government is responsible for protecting their people and these unalienable rights and if they do not succeed, the people have the right to alter or throw off the government and find new people to protect their future.

2. List a handful of grievances:
Other than the fact that the colonists reformed their government to a democratic perspective, they also wrote a list of grievances against Britain. They listed things such as: over taxing without representation, forcing the colonists to host solders in their homes, cutting off American trade from anyone but Britain, and having no input of a jury in American trials. Lastly, the grievances listed included the lack of basic rights for the colonists.

3. The Conclusion:
The conclusion within the Declaration of Independence brought the people of America closer due to the nationalistic way it was written. The conclusion verified there independency from all British rule and illuminated there certain decision to break away from British rule and form a new government. It concluded that they have the right to gain allies, trade with other countries, make peace, declare war, and start taxation with representation. The Declaration of Independence signified the colonists’ independence from Great Britain and set the foundation for the United States of America.

The Bill of Rights ratified in 1791 gave more freedoms and democratic rights to the people. It relates to the declaration because it the declaration also granted democratic freedoms and rights.
