James J. Polk issued this message to address the tensions of war between them and Mexico. Initially he mentions existing peace, attempts to work out the issues between that of the border and territorial disputes, along with other injustices. Polk explained that these issues should be dealt with by Congress. Troops were sent by the President because the Mexican government was unresponsive. General Arista attempted to stop the invasion, but led to a battle with americans. Polk believed that the involvement was needed because how uncooperative Mexico was with the US in terms of settling the issues. An America envoy, John Slidell, was sent to Mexico to reestablish friendly relations between the nations and to solidify international boundaries, but he was rejected by their government. Tensions grow between America and Mexico.This relates to Polk's message because America had tensions with Mexico over territory and border disputes. Trump wants to build a wall creating tension with Mexico to keep out all the illegal immigrants.
